Empresarios por la Educación or “Businessmen for Education” was established as a foundation with the mission of incorporating the business sector in improving the state of education in Colombia.
ExE, as it is known in Spanish, was designed as a mechanism to coordinate, channel, facilitate and find support from the business sector for basic and middle education. It does so by studying potential improvements in the educational system; advising the government at various levels; and supporting and implementing projects that enhance education.
The Foundation has upwards of 80 sponsoring members, composed mainly of business people and private-sector enterprises that come together in its many chapters throughout the country or at its headquarters in Bogotá. This set up allows ExE to deal with education issues at the regional (state or municipal) level, while also having influence with the national government and having an effect on a country-wide basis.
The Genesis Foundation has co-sponsored an ExE program of grant awards to regional projects, selected after a rigorous process, that seek to improve education in innovative, high-impact ways. Genesis grants provided support to two out of five winning projects.
ExE is run by a highly qualified team with many years of experience in the fields of education and not-for-profit work.
