The Menorah Foundation is a non-profit private organization founded in 1993 to provide high-quality educational opportunities to disadvantaged low-income children in Bogotá. The Foundation runs a state-of-the art school for over 1000 girls, where they are trained in secretarial and administrative skills with the express goal that every student find employment upon graduation.
The concept of the Menorah foundation was created by a group of Jewish Colombian businessmen and the Women's Chapter of B'nai B'rith International, who saw deficiencies in the Colombian educational system and wanted to offer an alternative where youth could gain the training, education and skills necessary to be productive in today’s world and contribute to a more just and peaceful Colombia. The school prides itself in offering a strong curriculum in humanities, sciences, and technology; with an emphasis on studying different cultures and customs and providing Colombian girls with an expansive view of the outside world.
With support from the Genesis Foundation, the school has engaged in a number of innovative programs. These include an ambitious capital project to double its capacity and provide primary through high-school education to more than 2000 girls and a pioneering teacher training initiative in which participating teachers not only improve and expand their skills, but also become empowered instructors that can then pass on their knowledge to their colleagues.
